Arenberg Doctoral School is proud to invite you to Meet The Jury!

When internationally renowned experts visit KU Leuven as a member of a PhD Examination Committee, we like to seize this opportunity to give this expert a forum to a large audience. All members of Science, Engineering & Technology are most welcome to the Meet The Jury Lectures.

Prof. Nancy Odendaal (African Centre for Cities, University of Cape Town – University of Basel ) will give a lecture on “Pedagogical Urbanism and the art of augmented storytelling: how civil society organisations use hybrid technologies to shape spaces”.

“The social media space, in all its contestations, provides an infrastructure of exchange that many civil society organisations have used to augment their mobilisation strategies. Findings from research in Cape Town show, however, that such instances of smart urbanism are actually more hybrid in nature, framing narratives as part of multifaceted storytelling exercise, intended for public education and raising awareness. The conclusions of this seminar are intended to provoke conversations on the nature of contemporary urban activism and its interface with data and smart infrastructures, whilst engaging the content of such exchanges as a broader pedagogical agenda aimed at shifting public policies on the urban poor.”

Following the lecture, there will be opportunity for young researchers to interact with her.
